The PTO hosts several events during evenings and weekends in its effort to contribute to building a stronger and more connected community and to raise money to support the enrichment programs at the school.
ALL YEAR
- Spirit Days
- Staff Appreciation Days
FALL
Welcome Back to School Breakfast
On the first full day of Kindergarten, all Thompson parents are invited immediately after drop-off to have coffee and a baked good and connect with the parent community.
Town Day/Arlington Community Card Sale Kickoff
Thompson School parents volunteer to sell Arlington Community Cards at the school’s booth during Arlington Town Day.
Walk/Bike to School Day
Picture Day
The PTO organizes Picture Day at school.
WINTER
Book Fair
Once a year, we partner with a book fair vendor to support literacy at the school. Children and teachers make wish lists, and everyone is invited during after-school hours to make purchases.
Literacy Night
In conjunction with the Book Fair, we organize a family evening event to encourage a love of reading. Previous events have included games such as book bingo, spelling bee, acting out stories, and a make-your-own-bookmark station.
Holiday Help Program
Make the holidays brighter for local area families through our annual program. Take a mitten (or two) with a family member’s specific wish displayed on a board in the main lobby and bring in the wrapped present for that family member to enjoy over the holidays!
Game Night
Families are invited to come to school to play board games with friends and and have cookies and hot cocoa. A local company provides demo games and games for sale, and the PTO collects gently used games to sell, too.
Multicultural Festival (every other year)
This long-standing Thompson tradition is our way to celebrate the amazing diversity at our school. It includes a “tasting room” of food from around the world, table displays of world cultures, fashion show, arts and crafts, and games.
Science Explo (every other year)
This large-scale event offers children multiple hands-on experiment stations, food, entertainment, and our reknowned raffle baskets.
Ice Skating Party
Before the coldest season comes to an end, we hold a pizza and ice skating party at the Ed Burns Arena Rink in Arlington.
SPRING
Teacher Appreciation Week
The PTO organizes school-wide activities to show appreciation for teachers: special lunches, coffee, desserts, flowers, and other gifts.
Family Picnic at the Park
To close the year, we get together outside for a family picnic. Highlights include bouncy houses, a cake walk, a dunk tank, an ice cream sundae station, and carnival games.
Incoming Kindergarten Family Orientation
5th Grade Graduation
The PTO supports 5th grade parents as they celebrate the graduation of their children with special events, yearbook, T-shirts, etc.
