Arlington Community Card | Thompson’s Community Card is the primary fundraiser for Thompson School. Committee members sign up businesses to participate and work with volunteers to sell cards at Town Day and throughout the year. |
Communications & Marketing |
Manage all marketing and communications for PTO programming, including publicity, weekly and monthly newsletters, social media, and website. |
Enrichment | Collaborate with teachers and grade reps to plan theater, music, dance, and art events, author visits, and math- and science-oriented events. |
Fundraising | Manage and collaborate with fundraising committee to raise money for all enrichment programming at Thompson via the Arlington Community Card, Direct Donation Drive, raffles, bake sales, Box Tops, Amazon, and other methods. |
New Family Ambassadors | Welcome new families to Thompson by showing them the ropes, introducing them to other families, meeting them for coffee to answer questions, and generally welcoming them into the Thompson community. |
Room Representatives | Support your child’s teacher while getting to know your child’s classmates and their parents! Work with co-room representatives and teachers to find volunteers for classroom celebrations, field trips, teacher appreciation, and school-wide community-building events. |
Spirit & Appreciation Committee | Manage school spirit gear sales, organize monthly spirit days, and manage and solicit volunteers for all appreciation activities such as Teacher Appreciation Week. |
Volunteer Committee | Create the annual volunteer survey, collect and analyze survey data, manage the PTO’s SignUpGenius account, and organize volunteer recognition. |

Arlington EATS | Founded by Thompson School parents and staff and now supporting students townwide, Arlington EATS works to ensure that the 500-plus local students who receive free and reduced-price lunch when school is in session still have access to healthy meals even when school is not in session, from monthly community dinners to lunches during summer and school vacation weeks to providing access to snacks during the school day. |
Thompson Diversity and Inclusion Group (DIG) | The Thompson DIG is a volunteer group of Thompson parents and guardians that aims to strengthen the school experience for families, students, faculty, and staff by recognizing and valuing our diversity and promoting equity and inclusion. Thompson Drama Project | Thompson Drama Project (TDP) is a long-standing parent-run program that puts on an annual theatrical production (or two!) for all 3rd to 5th graders who want to be involved. |
Garden Committee | The Thompson garden consists of 6 raised beds that are used to grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers. The garden serves as an outdoor classroom that supplements the math, science, and social studies curriculum. |
Green Team | The Thompson Green Team cares about the earth, the environment, and all living creatures. It aims to empower and support students and the broader Thompson community to take action to protect and preserve our environment. Guided by student interest, ideas, and energy, the Green Team provides opportunities and coordinates activities that will have a meaningful and positive impact. |
School Council Representatives | School Council identifies educational needs, adopts educational goals, reviews the annual school budget, and formulates a school improvement plan for Thompson. It is comprised of administrators, parents, and one community member (10 members total). |
Yearbook | The Thompson Yearbook Committee coordinates and designs the annual all-school yearbook which contains a special 5th grade memory book. |
