Amazon Fundraising

There has been some confusion regarding the best way for parents and other Thompson supports to use Amazon to best support our Thompson PTO.  Here are some of the most Frequently Asked Questions:

What’s the best way to use Amazon to help the Thompson PTO earn money?

The best way is to click on the Amazon banner on the home page PTO’s website, or click on the Amazon banner here, and then shop as usual.  This is the Amazon Associate Program.

What percentage of my purchase goes to the PTO?

Thompson receives between 4% and 15% of your purchase.  For the most part, the percentage is based on how many individual items are purchased in a given month: the more items purchased, the higher the percentage we receive.  Several items don’t count as going towards the items per-month volume-based tally and instead they have a set percentage associated with them (e.g., Amazon MP3 products have a fixed return rate of 5%).

Can I still use my Amazon Prime?

Yes, you can!  You can enjoy your free two-day shipping and help Thompson at the same time!

I made some Amazon purchases after clicking on the banner, but didn’t receive any indication that a percentage of my purchase was going to Thompson. Is that okay?

Yes. Amazon doesn’t give you any indication that a portion of your purchase is headed our way.  After you click the link, you will see the letters “thompelemesch” in the url.  You are on the right track!

How does the PTO get the funds?

Amazon deposits the funds into our account on a monthly basis. It’s so easy, it’s like magic.

I’ve heard that the Amazon Smiles program will donate to charitable organizations, including the Thompson PTO?  How does this compare to clicking on the Amazon Associates program, where you click on the banner?

The Amazon Associate program is different (and much more lucrative) than the Amazon Smiles program. The Amazon Smiles program contributes only 0.5% of your purchase, compared to Amazon Associates, where 4% to 15% of your purchase is earmarked for the Thompson PTO.  Clicking on the Amazon Banner is the way to go!
