There has been some confusion regarding the best way for parents and other Thompson supports to use Amazon to best support our Thompson PTO. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions:
What’s the best way to use Amazon to help the Thompson PTO earn money?
The best way is to click on the Amazon banner on this website, or click on the link right here, and then shop as usual. This is the Amazon Associates Program.
What percentage of my purchase goes to the PTO?
Thompson now receives on average 4% to 10% for each item (excluding some things like gift cards, Kindle subscriptions, Appstore, and alcohol), based on the fixed-rate category the item is assigned to by Amazon. That may sound like a wide range of percentages, but it sure does add up!
Can I still use my Amazon Prime?
Yes, you can! You can enjoy your free two-day shipping and help Thompson at the same time!
I made some Amazon purchases after clicking on the banner, but didn’t receive any indication that a percentage of my purchase was going to Thompson. Is that okay?
Yes. Amazon doesn’t give you any indication that a portion of your purchase is headed our way. After you click the link, you will see the letters “thompelemesch” in the url. You’re on the right track!
How does the PTO get the funds?
Amazon deposits the funds into our account on a monthly basis. It’s so easy, it’s like magic.
I’ve heard that the Amazon Smile program will donate to charitable organizations, including the Thompson PTO. How does this compare to clicking on the banner on the PTO website?
This one is important! The Amazon Associates program is different (and much more lucrative) than the Amazon Smile program. Amazon Smile contributes only 0.5% of your purchase—compared with Amazon Associates, where on average 4% to 10% of your purchase is earmarked for the Thompson PTO. Starting with the Amazon banner on the Thompson PTO website is the way to go!
